The parenting lesson it took me a decade to learn - don't get smug!

Here's my final column on Essential Kids for 2014.

As the year comes to a close, I reflect on what I've learnt not just this year but over the last decade of parenting. What stands out most is the simple fact nothing is forever. No phase lasts - good or bad. With that in mind, my lesson is about being smug. It's a tricky one - smug versus proud. Read on as I muddle my way through explaining it:
